Responsibilities:
Fully investigate and settle cargo loss and damage claims presented to the company.
Determine the extent, if any, of rail carrier liability and the proper measure of damages.
Negotiate and effect settlements of contested claims that satisfy the company's legal obligations while being sensitive to customer expectations and understandings.
Subrogate claim settlements to foreign line railroads and others when appropriate.
Basic
Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Available to work in the geographic area indicated and be willing to travel within and outside that area on an unscheduled, irregular basis with little or no advance notice.
Work in excess of 40 hours per week with 24 hour per day/7 day per week on-call responsibility including weekends and holidays as needed.
Must be able to work outside of the office in the railroad environment.
Possess a valid state-issued driver's license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
Proficient in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office for correspondence, creating reports and databases.
Ability to learn various mainframe and web-based computer applications.
Ability to learn, understand and apply principles of transportation liability and law across commodities and shipment types.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
High level of interpersonal skills with ability to relate to, and meet needs of, diverse constituencies.
Developed ability to accomplish tasks working effectively in teams or through others.
Organizational skills necessary to meet the demands of multiple time sensitive tasks and projects of similar priority all within established timelines.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.
Working knowledge of cargo claim rules; transportation law related to goods in transit and litigation procedures Understanding of, or exposure to, rail, yard and train operation.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
