This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. As a training employee, rotates duties in several units such ascafeteria, nourishment unit, salad unit, main kitchen, dining room, vegetablepreparation area, and dish washing area. Performs a combination of thefollowing duties under close supervision until routines are learned adequately:
Work in the dish room, scrapes trays and washes dishes;
Operate the dish machine;
Wash pots and pans and operates the utensil washer;
Assist with preparation of trays, delivers trays to patient bedsides, picks up and returns them to the kitchen after meals;
Assist with portioning nourishment and delivers nourishment topatients;
In dining rooms, assists with trays or table service to patientsseated at tables and assists those needing help;
Clean fruits and vegetables in preparation for salads, dessertsor for cooking;
Receive training under close supervision in performing duties asassigned to FSW WG-2 to include: making toast, salad,etc.
Observe and learn to serve patients, beneficiaries and/or other meal recipients on cafeteria lines - dishing up salads and desserts;
Serve modified diets under very close supervision on tray andcafeteria lines and learn menu reading;
Assist with the clean up of any assigned area;
Sweep and mop food service preparation areas;
Special cleaning of equipment;
Deliver supplies;
Haul trash;
Attend training classes as scheduled, including those sponsoredby Nutrition and Food Service or the Medical Center;
Give attention to on-the-job training provided for assignedduties.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement and your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of duties such as cleaning and washing dishes and various equipment as well as experience in preparation and deliver nourishment.
Intern ship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis.
Pathways Program Requirements:
1)Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student at a qualifying educational institution in a curriculum leading to a degree, diploma or certificate.
2)Comply with the criteria (as defined by the academic institution) for enrollment as either a full-time or half-time student in good standing.
3)Maintain good academic standing as evidenced through achievement of a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
4)Keep the supervisor informed of academic progress, which includes providing copies of class schedules, most recent grade reports or transcripts, and other information requested with respect to eligibility and status as a student-trainee.
5)Perform work at an acceptable level.
JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:
1) _SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT_ Ability to do food service work without more than normal supervision
2) Knowledge of work practices (cleanliness, neatness and sanitation in food service work)
3) Ability to interpret instructions (read, understands and follows written ?al; instructions, policies, etc)
4) Dexterity and safety in food service work. (Describe your ability to perform food service worker duties and to use tools, utensils, &equipment; with dexterity, speed and safety.) Include details of any on the jobaccidents within the past five years.
5) Ability to use and care for kitchen utensils and equipment.

Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills,and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position requires work which is performed in the kitchen and dining areas where it is necessary to lift and carry heavy trays, dishes, and silverware weighing up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 45 pounds. The ability to reach above your shoulder as well as use of both hands and all fingers is required. Prolonged walking and standing for up to 8 hours as well as repeated bending for up to 1 hour is also required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must stand for long periods of time, work carefully on slick floors,work with hands in soap and detergents. Is subject to burns, cuts, punctures from equipment used. May be exposed to extreme temperatures of hot kitchen and cold of walk-in refrigerators. Works in close proximity of ill patients when serving trays at bedside and/or cafeteria lines thereby being subject to moods of ill patients. There is the possibility of intermittent excessive noise.Works around machinery with moving parts, grease and oils.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
