Boiler Plant Operator
The Boiler Plant Operator is a member of the Engineering service at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, KS and is responsible for starting, operating, adjusting, stopping, maintaining, and performing various operational repairs on 4 steam water tube boilers.
Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
o Responsible for the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of the entire boiler plant section when working evenings, nights, holidays or weekend shifto Making independent judgments and decisions for all facets of plant operations and maintenance to ensure continuous and efficient operation of all equipment and appurtenant facilitieso Noting operational issues in the logbook and documenting fire alarms, fire alarm holds on buildingso Completing tasks and resolving issues/problems which are noted in the logbook from previous shifto Replacing packing, gaskets, diaphragms, valves, nipples, and pipingo Repairing refractory, insulation, CPVC and PVC lines and valves, burners, pumps, regulators, etc.
o Checking running equipment and water tanks, lubricating running equipment, logging all temperature, pressure and energy calculationso Maintaining quality water management programo Testing each safety device during normal tour of duty o Cleaning burners, strainers, fire boxes, mud drums, steam drums, forced draft fans, water tanks, bearing housings, floors, walls, desks, work benches, toilet, shower, lockers, break room, offices and all work areas around boilers o Preparing boilers for inspectionso Assist other operators in hydrostatic testing and placing boilers back in serviceo Operator in charge of all Engineering Service after hours, off tour call-backs for the whole facilityo Coordinates use of GSA vehicles for use by Medical Center employeesWork Schedule:
All tours which may include Nights, Evenings, Weekends and Holidays.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
