Supervisory Pharmacy Technician

As a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, major duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Processing and filling outpatient prescriptions for scheduled and non-schedule federal medications, medical devices, over-the-counter products and supply items in compliance with regulations and policies and procedures. Packages and dispenses outpatient medication to patients for window and mail, and courier services. Perform the technical duties of inpatient pharmacy in the areas of cart fill, unit dose repackaging equipment, point of care cabinets inventory management, narcotic dispensing, and compounding procedures. Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot problems with our automated equipment. Understanding the importance of maximizing production and efficiency. Management of ward stock medications. Ensuring that ward stock and unit dose medications are prepared, delivered, and stored in compliance with department and facility policies, procedures, and regulations. Preparation of intravenous admixtures including hazardous drugs and chemotherapy preparations. Ensuring compliance with USP 797 standards. Replenishes and maintains records for emergency crash carts. Reviews inventory and ward stock medications for expired medications. Completes these reviews on time in accordance with department policy. Performs direct patient care functions where assigned and works with professional staff in the development of clinical technician functions. The Supervisor Pharmacy Technician will review clinical technician functions for compliance with department policy. These reviews will be assigned by and reported to the pharmacy supervisor. Helps with the development of the orientation and training of new employees and students. Assists pharmacy supervisors with the review of certificates and interviews used in the hiring process. Assists in preparing for special accreditations, reviews, and/or inspections. Ensures the completion of mandatory training assigned by the VA for technicians. Monitors the opiate renewal program. Completes consults within 5 working days. Reviews vault reports daHy. Verifies the completion of 72 hour inventories, manages users in the vault point of care cabinet, verifies balance adjustments, destructions, and receipts for controlled substance delivery to ward stock. Investigates and reconciles daily discrepancies. Performs traceable balance adjustments for inventory movement and destructions. Notifies the appropriate supervisors of any discrepancies. Assists with monthly controlled substance inspections. Has comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures. This employee will success fully and consistently demonstrate the use of independent technical judgment. Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, off tours may be required depending on the needs of the department. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/09/2020. Basic Requirements:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English language proficiency. Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English. Certification. Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (proof of graduation or equivalent required) or at least 3 months of experience. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with the scope of pharmacy technician practice. Part-time experience as a pharmacy technician is credited according to its relationship the full-time work week. For example, a pharmacy technician would receive 1 week of full-time credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work. Preferred
Experience:
Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred, but not required. Grade Determinations GS-7:
Experience. One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk ( ):
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities. 2. Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes. 3. Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff 4. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment. 5. Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process. 6. Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures. 7. Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures. 8. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in VA information systems. Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. The GS-7 level is for very select, complex pharmacy technician positions as established by each health care facility. To be advanced, employees must meet all of the following standards, provided the standard is part of their assignment. Determinations concerning placement of positions at this grade level shall take into consideration the skill mix and availability of supervision in the work unit. Although these positions are under the supervision of a pharmacist, employees in such settings successfully and consistently demonstrate the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision) as well as comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures. Physical Requirements:
This position requires heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking (3 hours per day); standing (8 hours per day); kneeling (2 hours per day); repeated bending (4 hours per day); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable to 13 to 16; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
