Engineering Technician

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Preparing design and specifications for construction and maintenance work. Participating in engineering surveys; initiating, formulating, and adapting design plans and specifications; and providing original detailed drawings utilizing an AutoCADD computer system to implement the finished product in Building Information Modeling (BIM). Setting up and maintaining the BIM data sets for all future and existing buildings for both divisions of the health care system Maintaining and keeping up to date the existing Capital Asset Inventory database Preparing CADD drawings that involve a variety of branches of Engineering and include such diverse items as building designs, floor plans, steel stairways and platforms, structures, roadways, parking facilities, land contours and drainage patterns, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning and electrical systems. Developing contract drawings using current version of AutoCADD and Revit. Working with Geo Information Systems/Building Information Modeling (BIM) Managing CADD files and ensuring the back-up copies of all computer related tasks are secured on appropriate computer systems (files, drives, diskettes, etc.). Maintaining all current drawings as changes occur, and updating existing buildings/systems on the AutoCADD computer system. Preparing prints in quantities required for specific purposes for Engineering and other Inter-Agency Groups, obtaining all required signatures of concurrence before reproduction is accomplished. Distributing updated copies of drawings to appropriate personnel. Processing submittals, progress payments, payroll reports, progress reports and all other necessary correspondence or documentation to ensure that the construction is completed in accordance with the contract, and in the best interest of the U.S. Government. Providing technical support to the Project Design Section and/or the Construction Management Section and other sections of Engineering Service as directed by the Supervisor of Construction Management. Incumbent will serve as a COR (Contracting Officers Representative); at least COR Level 1. CADD experience/use is preferred within the past 5 years. Work Schedule:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Technical work in drafting, surveying, construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or developmental work on devices fabricated. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:
KSA 1 - Knowledge and skills to design, develop, organize, plan, inspect and interpret specification and standards, for multi-discipline projects (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, etc.) KSA 2 - Ability to independently utilize a Computer Automated Design & Drafting System (CADD) for design, development and produce final plans, drawings, sketches, and design concepts for construction projects and other related work. KSA 3 - Knowledge of quality assurance, cost effectiveness, construction codes (Federal, State, VA, NFPA, OSHA, etc.) directives, and standards applicable to construction projects and design as required for a medical center environment. KSA 4 - Knowledge and ability to prepare written communication in appropriate form (in regards to construction project design, specifications and requirements, inspections, contracts, etc. for compliance with governing directives) KSA 5- Ability to communicate orally with appropriate knowledge and experience with a variety of persons and professionals (related to construction project design, specifications and requirements, inspections, contracts, etc. for compliance with governing directives). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Experience:
CADD experience within the last 5 years. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily sedentary, however frequent physical activity such as walking (up to 6 hours), standing (up to 6 hours), bending (up to 6 hours), climbing (up to 6 hours), or crawling (up to 6 hours) is required to complete work duties (such as surveys, construction inspections, etc.). The position requires climbing of ladders, walking on roofs and crawling under buildings. Construction inspections will require the incumbent to withstand long periods of walking, bending, climbing, etc. around new and existing structures. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
