Speech Pathologist

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Conducts, plans, and coordinates all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services. Independent diagnostic assessment and evaluation of cases that are referred to Speech-Language Pathology without limitation as to difficulty or complexity. Responsible for conducting evaluations with the patients and appropriate family members and/or friends, selects, administers and interprets the diagnostic test necessary to detect and evaluate types of speech language, voice, fluency, cognitive, and/or swallowing disorders. Responsible for the adequacy of assessment and for the reporting of the findings to other professional workers with whom he/she or other members of the speech-language pathology service may cooperate. Utilizes all diagnostic and evaluative procedures and techniques consistent with contemporary speech-language pathology practice. Responsible for planning, conducting, coordinating, and monitoring the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of patient-centered treatment and rehabilitative services to maximize and restore to the greatest extend possible physical and social functioning. Responsible for the administration of a full range of tests of speech, language, voice, fluency, and cognition including modal level and variation of vocal pitch and loudness; variability of the rate of vocal utterance; frequency and complexity of speech disfluency; consistency and adaptation disfluency in sustained or repeated speaking and aural reading. Incumbent serves as a consultant to other facility personnel involving the most difficult and complex cases and is a recognized subject matter expert. Remain current with new developments in speech-language pathology and will maintain professional competency by reading professional journals and engaging in continuing education activities and professional learning experiences. The incumbent will be expected to attend regular staff meetings and inter-disciplinary health care team meetings as appropriate. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. A master's degree or it equivalent in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university. Accredited means a college or university recognized by a regional accreditation organization and a speech-language pathology academic program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the America Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Licensure. For those grades that require licensure (GS-12 and above), the incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. The S-LP must maintain full, current, and unrestricted licensure/registration. Non-licensed applicants who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for S-LP licensure may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate S-LP under the authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405(a)(1)(D). Failure to obtain licensure during that time period is justification for termination for the temporary appointment. This may result in termination of employment. Individuals appointed as graduate S-LPs may not be promoted to the GS-12 level without being fully licensed. Grade Determinations:
GS-12:
Licensure. The incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Education and Experience. Staff S-LPs at this grade level must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range or theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of speech-language pathology to a wide range of populations. Individuals may perform ancillary assignments, including program management duties on an occasional basis, where the complexity and amount of work is not substantial (less than 25% of the time). The following KSAs are required:
Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies. Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures sufficient to perform clinical services independently. Ability to conduct assessments, provide treatment interventions, and provide consultation to other health care professionals. Knowledge of instrumentation using in speech-language pathology. Knowledge of principles and techniques used in alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems, diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia, and cognitive-communication disorders. Knowledge of principles and techniques used in voice disorders including alaryngeal and trach/ventilator-dependent patients. Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary speech-language pathology practice. References:

Requires light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (4 hours), standing (4 hours), and repeated bending. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far visions correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other. Both eyes required. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing (Aid permitted).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
