Major duties and responsibilities include:
Assigns work to subordinates (including but not limited to Facility Transportation Plans, Rescues, and follow ups). Reviews work done by subordinates. Conducts performance evaluations. Counsels employees on behavioral issues. Makes the determination of when to forward cases to the Supervisory Health Science Specialist for clinical follow up. Enforce adherence to rules and regulations. Ensures agency policies, procedures, and practices are following federal, state and VA agency standards and guidelines. Communicates changes to staff regarding policy and procedure updates, VCL changes, and info as needed. Proposes and recommends process improvements for Veterans Crisis Line Social Services Assistant and Lead Social Services Assistants. Investigates and responds to Veterans and community complaints and inquiries. Oversees VCL SSA floor operations. Provides back up consultation for staff in emergency situations. Monitor reports to ensure operational coverage of staffing is met. Represents the Social Services program during meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Conducts and directs the review and evaluation of time and attendance reports, staffing allocations. Monitors and maintenance of floor supplies and proposes requests to leadership for procurement of these items as needed. Develop training materials to meet staff training needs. Serves as the subject matter expert for SSA and LSSA training. Ensures individual training requirements for all assigned staff are complete and current. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-8. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-08 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Provided guidance on dispatch of emergency services, how to locate callers in danger, and ensures the correct and appropriate submission of Veteran Protected Health Information to VA Medical Centers (VAMC) around the country. Exercised technical and administrative oversight of Social Service team. Trains team in using information from CPRS and CAPRI records to communicate and assist with crisis intervention. Exercised creative problem-solving skills and makes critical, time-sensitive decisions while handling emergent situations involving emergency dispatch requests and facility transport plans. Developed or assisted with the development and implementation of policies and procedures. OR Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that's directly related to the work of this position. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combination of related specialized experience and education, as described above, that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position.
